A Anti-Aging & Hydrating Smoothie with a Holiday Twist

This bright and creamy Sweet Potato Pie Smoothie gives you all the flavor of the Thanksgiving classic without all the guilt! Skin-boosting ingredients like sweet potato, citrus fruits and nuts provides immune support in addition to healthy, glowing complexion!

What Makes This Smoothie So Great For Your Skin?

Sweet Potatoes - These delicious vegetables can help delay the signs of aging because they contain the carotenoid, beta-carotene. They are also a great source of vitamin C. The best part about eating sweet potatoes is that studies show that they help produce HA (hyaluronic acid) which helps keep the skin supple and smooth and is mainly produced by the body. Unfortunately, the body’s ability to produce this acid decreases with age, but adding sweet potatoes to your diet can help keep the levels of HA at a steady level.

Sweet potatoes are high in alpha and beta-carotene. These together form active vitamin A, which is good for your bones, eyes, and immune system. One sweet potato provides more than the maximum daily allowance of vitamin A along with healthy amounts of vitamins B6 and C, manganese, potassium, zeaxanthin, and lutein.

Oranges -
Eating a large orange will also provide you with a good amount of vitamin C, as well as hydrate your skin and keep it supple since oranges are full of water. Studies show that those who regularly incorporate foods rich in vitamin C into their diets reduce their risk of wrinkles by 36%. Their skin also showed signs of being well hydrated, which means radiant, younger-looking skin. Vitamin C also protects the skin against UV radiation.

Oranges contain one of the best sources of vitamin C, which is used to make antibodies and white blood cells in the immune system. Oranges are high in antioxidants that protect the cells from oxygen free radicals that can damage cells. Whole oranges are high in fiber as well and contain a great deal of folate, which a large study showed to help women significantly reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure, a major contributing factor to heart attacks.

Allspice -Allspice has great nutritional value and some antiseptic, antioxidant, analgesic and pain-relieving properties. Rich inVitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and niacin which provides great antioxidant support for the whole body.

Nuts - Similar to olive oil, nuts in general are a great source of unsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Eating a handful of mixed nuts for an afternoon snack provides you with a healthy portion of omega-3 fatty acids to nourish your skin, as well as anti-inflammatory properties to help treat and prevent skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
