Chemical Peel Aftercare

Chemical Peel Aftercare -Post Treatment

What to Expect After Your Chemical Peel Treatment:

  • After the chemical peel procedure, your skin will feel dry and tight. Any visible peeling may be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer.

  • Peeling or  flaking may begin 3-5 days after a chemical peel treatment, depending on the depth and strength of the treatment. Peeling or flaking may continue for 7-10 days.

  • Chemical peels on the body do not always result in visible peeling due to the fact that skin on the body is more resistant than the face.

  • Post treatment your skin will feel dry and tight, and may appear crusty depending on the strength and depth of the chemical peel.

  • Mild/ Superficial Peel: expect minimal to no flaking especially if you have oily skin.

  • Medium Chemical Peel: expect moderate to heavy flaking up to 4-7 days depending on your skin type, ex: dry skin tends to peel heavier than oily skin types.

  • Deep Chemical Peels: expect heavy peeling for 6-10 days

  • Dark spots may temporarily darken during the process. Your skin may look darker in areas, this is normal and is part of the process.

  • Slight irritation, itchiness or inflammation may occur. You may use an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to calm the skin as needed.

  • Acne purges may be noticed as impurities are brought to the surface on some skin types.

  • If you are prone to cold sores, the treatment may induce a breakout.

Important Peel Aftercare/Post Care:

  • Avoid activities that involve excessive sweating for 72-96 hours after your peel (including exercising, hot yoga, saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms.)

  • Avoid sun exposure and excessive heat for at least 7 days.

  • DO NOT PICK, PULL, PEEL or SCRUB your skin while it's peeling.

  • Do not use abrasive skin care products on the skin including Clarisonic Brushes, or exfoliating scrubs.

  • Wear SPF of 35 or higher. Preferably a mineral-based physical sunblock with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

  • Avoid cleansers and topical products with active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, retinol/Retin-A, for one week after the procedure

  • Stay hydrated and drink a lot of water.

  • Avoid hot water when cleansing the face. Cleanse your skin with cool or luke-warm water and pat dry with a clean towel - never rub.

  • Normal activity may be resumed after chemical peels, however strenuous exercise and heavy sweating should be avoided for 24-72 hours.
