IPL Photofacial treatment at MaxAesthetics In Philadelphia is recommended for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, melasma, sun damage, acne scars & mild rosacea. Brown spots, broken capillaries and other fallout from sun exposure are easy targets for light based IPL systems that use broadband light to repair these defects through a process called ipl photo rejuvenation.

Additionally, ipl photofacial results will show facial fine lines may also be minimized non-ablatively, contributing to a more youthful appearance. Using relatively low-energy, short-pulse broadband light, imperfections such as erythema or rosacea, superficial telangiectasia, dyschromia, age spots, freckles and other discolored signs of photo aging, and acne can be gently heated and eliminated, replaced by clearer, younger looking skin after treatment.

IPL Photofacial treatments can be done during  lunch and no one will notice any sign of treatment, just a gradual improvement in the skin's appearance because each treatment is gentle with no major downtime except some mild redness which subsides within an hour after the facial for most individuals.

Note: Though IPL Photofacial work will aid in the reduction of superficial telangiectasia or broken capillaries, this procedure is best for the removal of freckles, dark spots and sun spots. For broken capillaries or veins please see Spider veins treatment page

IPL Photofacial Results

How would these treatment results be achieved?

Although there are several methods of laser skin rejuvenation to remove dark spots, at MaxAesthetics Spa in Philadelphia we perform light based treatments. Light based systems and lasers are very similar, however, the light based treatment system removes lesions in a much safer way. When the light energy is absorbed in the pigmented lesion, it breaks up the melanin that causes the discoloration. IPL Photofacials can be performed on the face, chest, neck, arms, hands , back and legs.

What To Expect After an IPL Procedure

Immediately after your ipl photofacial treatment, your skin will feel like you had a sunburn, and may feel this way for up to 48 hours. Your skin may be red and dark spots will appear a bit darker and slightly raised and will begin to flake or exfoliate off your skin within 2-3 days of treatment and may take up to 10 days to complete.

IPL Photofacial Procedure Post Care:

Sun protection of 15 or higher is a must after an ipl photofacial. Avoid tanning or sunning after treatment. Avoid skincare products with acids, retin A, or harsh exfoliants for at least two weeks post IPL treatment. Makeup can be worn immediately after an IPL photofacial. However, it is best to use mineral makeup if needed. Mineral makeup is a natural sun protection and skin healer.

Who is a Candidate for IPL Photofacial Skin Treatment?

Any man or woman with skin types 1 to 4 who shows the signs of aged and sun-damaged skin is a candidate for light based skin rejuvenation. IPL skin rejuvenation system is beneficial for many skin types including some ethnic skin types.

Note: Antibiotics and steroid use causes photosensitivity and may make the skin susceptible to burning. Therefore, IPL treatments may only be performed at least two weeks after stopping the use of oral antibiotics and steroids.

Note: Darker skin types 5 and 6 are not candidates for IPL treatment. However we do offer alternate services to photofacials such as skin lightening treatments - chemical peels for hyperpigmentation and microneedling and laser genesis for acne and scars.
