You would have likely heard the word antioxidant but may not fully understand what it means or what it does within the body. Let’s clear that up.

 See, as we age, every single day of our lives we are exposed to oxidative damage. It is simply a fact of life. Cells and DNA become worn out the longer they exist, and eventually they are unable to replicate to 100%.

 This is the process of aging taking place. Stress from everyday life just compounds oxidative damage, and can accelerate the aging process, exactly what we are trying to avoid!

As the first line of defense for your body, this protective shield is tough but thin, waterproof but able to absorb moisture, strong but soft and in some cases, highly sensitive. Your skin needs proper care and attention in order to fight against outside intruders such as bugs, germs, scratches, abrasions, and other wounds, and of course the different elements such as extreme cold and heat.

The epidermis is also the main protector of the second layer of skin, or the dermis, where many important physical structures such as sweat glands and hair follicles are kept. When kept healthy, your skin will be beautiful, strong, and durable, able to keep you safe from harmful outside agents and healthy both inside and out.

Avocados make a great mask for beautiful skin. Packed with emollient avocado oil, avocados are a wonderful source of  antioxidants and fatty acids to replenish the skin. Honey is a humectant that will draw  moisture from the air into your skin. Honey has some amazing antioxidant properties as well as amino acids, peptide and probiotics to soothe and nourish the skin. The antibacterial qualities of honey also help protect the surface of your skin. 

For skin that needs a little extra TLC, mush half an avocado along with a  with a quarter cup of honey. Apply directly to the skin for at least 15 minutes. Rinse it off using a moist, cool washcloth, wrung out with water. Pat dry and follow up with your usual skin care. For dry or aging skin we recommend a cream packed with skin repairing peptides to prevent, and reduce the signs of aging. 

(Tip: This is a good remedy for moisturizing your hair too although you use one avocado mixed with just a couple of tablespoons of honey for a half hour before rinsing the hair clean with warm water!)

There are many homemade beauty tricks, but one of the greatest basic ingredients for homemade facials and masks is honey! 

Raw honey is loaded with antioxidants, enzymes and probiotics to protect and nourish the skin. It reduces inflammation and hydrates the skin to provide moisture due to its humectant properties, meaning it draws moisture from the air into your skin. Raw honey even has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties!

Many chronic diseases are caused by lifestyle. People tend not to exercise as much as they should; they allow themselves to become overweight, by indulging in unhealthy foods and habits that may lead to diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and strokes. The problem with unhealthy and bad eating habits is that they are difficult to turn around. Many people try to change their lifestyle all at once, which is extremely difficult to accomplish. As a result, they often give up all of their healthy habits and resort to the usual negative health habits that they had before they attempted a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes it just takes a few days or a few weeks of trying to live healthy before the individual becomes overwhelmed and gives up. They stop exercising and go back to eating processed foods and junk foods.This is why it is better to change your health habits one habit at a time so that you don’t become overwhelmed and stop trying to be healthy altogether.

Most weight loss programs work if they are done carefully and don’t deprive the individual too much. The same is true of exercise programs. If you choose an exercise that you really enjoy or increase your physical activity gradually, it will be a lot easier to stick to the program so that you don’t become discouraged and quit exercising altogether.

When we think of the visible signs of aging that we most want to overcome, facial wrinkles are at the top of the list. We are constantly made aware of the major common causes of wrinkles - the sun’s ultraviolet rays, stress, alcohol, cigarette smoking and simply getting older.

However, there are some lesser-known factors that may be contributing to your display of facial creases. These may not have the macro effects of the causes already mentioned, but if you are quite concerned by the appearance of wrinkles you may wish to consider every possible option. One or more of these may be influencing your appearance, so consider running a self-check to monitor their impact.

Sleeping on one side all night

Research has shown that sleeping on one side the entire night can cause creases on your skin to develop. This is because as you press your skin against your pillow, creases may develop on your chest, chins and cheeks.

Unfortunately, as you get older, your skin will no longer be capable of smoothing out or springing back as quickly as when you were still young. Try to minimize the habit of sleeping on only one side as much as possible. You may also opt to use silky soft pillowcases to reduce friction on your skin.

Spending long hours inside the vehicle

It is a common fallacy that being inside the car totally spares you from the harmful rays of the sun. However, if you drive or stay inside the car for long hours you can still be a moving target of the sun’s UV rays. One way to prevent this from happening is to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily when travelling. Wear sunglasses as well to prevent squinting – another wrinkle-maker.

Repeated facial expressions

If you have the habit of frowning or squinting whenever you are trying to express yourself then chances are there are already several grooves forming beneath the surface of your skin. Gradually, these grooves will become obvious marks that are known as wrinkles which are also referred to as laugh lines, frown lines and forehead folds.

Eat a balanced diet

We are made aware from some quarters that over-consumption of meat can be bad for our health. The real problem is if meat is eaten to the exclusion of other necessary food groups, especially fruit and vegetables. When it comes to fighting wrinkles, we often tend to forget about the importance of eating plant-based foods which are loaded with anti-oxidants that fight against premature signs of aging.

 Meat can have benefits to the body’s overall health but avoiding those greens and other colored vegetables can speed up age-related symptoms so skin wrinkles will appear sooner than they should. A great way to combat these wrinkles is to load up your plate with fish, olive oil, fruits and vegetables. Remember that you need to be beautiful inside and out!

Washing too much

Cleanliness might be a virtue, but habitually washing too much can have a negative effect on the health of your skin. Over washing your face can deplete its natural moisturizers resulting in dry skin that is susceptible to wrinkle formations.

Some soaps and cleansers contain ingredients which are harsh to the skin, especially if not quickly rinsed off. Make sure to use mild soaps and also avoid applying too much makeup.

1.   Choose the  Perfect Cleanser !  Acne prone skin needs a face wash that's powerful enough to clear away oil, dirt and dead skin, but gentle enough not to irritate the skin any further.
A daily face wash containing micronized benzoyl peroxide (a form of benzoyl peroxide that is 10 times more effective than the regular benzoyl due to its smaller molecule) can make a world of difference, with blemishes starting to clear in a little as 5 days. Micronized Benzoyl Peroxide kills acne causing bacteria on the surface of the skin and deep within pores, while reducing oil production, inflammation AND redness.

Tip:  Massage the cleanser into the skin, focusing on pimples and leave on for 5 minutes before washing it off.
